I genuinely enjoy language. So much so that I chose to make it the primary focus of my collegiate career.
I majored in Linguistics, which is the objective study of language. Linguistics focuses on breaking down language into its smallest component parts so that its real-world use and practicality can be better understood. I believe this specific experience into the inner-workings and mechanics of language makes me better-suited to assist with comprehension, composition, and form.
I also have a specific background in tutoring: English (kindergarten through college) and math (kindergarten through high school) both privately and through the State of California.
Education info: at Fresno State, I received a B.A. in Linguistics with a minor in Classical Studies (e.g., Latin and Greek), and at Utah State I received a B.S. in Communicative Disorders and Deaf education. At Fresno State, I was also a part of the Chukchansi Revitalization Project which provided an alphabet, dictionary, and working grammar of an endangered Native American Language (Chukchansi) to its own people.
Language, in its base form, is the expression of thought and learning to express (produce) or interpret (receive) that thought is a quintessential skill for human communication and understanding. I find it very fulfilling to provide students with much needed, one-on-one attention in discovering and honing their own voices, as well as disseminating others' thoughts: all the while sharpening their own critical thinking faculties.

Above all else, I focus on what the student’s unique needs are and establish a clear and open line of communication.
Before any session starts I like to set up an initial consultation to get more familiar with the student and guardian(s) (if applicable) and answer any questions there may be. This is a great opportunity to get on the same page by discussing the specifics:

‣The methods that will be used
‣The ultimate outcome from the service
The apps/services I use aren’t set in stone and are subject to fit each student’s needs/preferences.
Currently I cannot accommodate Apple-based services since their platform requires an Apple device; all other complimentary platforms should be fine.
During the tutoring session we establish either a video or audio-only call (customer preference). Then we proceed to work off a shared word-processing file. I find Google Docs to be especially easy for this purpose, but ultimately the customer has final say.
