I've always held the belief that the most boring, difficult subjects can be made interesting if taught in the right way.
This belief helped me achieve an IB Diploma, a programming internship and a 1530 on the SAT. It's currently helping me obtain a Bachelors degree in Materials Engineering at Cal Poly, SLO and contribute to published research on High Entropy Alloys.
I specialize in Math, Physics, Computer Science and Chemistry and have had years of experience teaching it to my peers and siblings. I have held virtual tutoring sessions through Zoom with a facecam and iPad streaming, and have planned lectures and practice problems.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always begin my curriciulum by conceptually teaching the topic. Instead of jumping right into learning how to solve problems, it's important to understand where the process to solve them comes from, and why they are useful to solve in the real world. This is not only more enjoyable for my students, it also allows them to zoom out and solve problems that are less algorithmic.
At the same time, I will cater my curriculum to the goals of my student. For example if they are preparing for an AP exam, I will create a roadmap going through each topic in the exam syllabus, and begin finding practice problems from previous tests to study. If they are looking for a foundational understanding, I will design more lectures which delve into the why and how of the concepts.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked multiple summers as a camp counselor for Seattle Parks and Recreation and for Pedalheads, where I've gained valuable experience working with kids, teaching non-trivial concepts (like riding a bike), and developing curriculum for my camp based on what works and what doesn't. One of my main takeaways is how different people learn so differently. One kid may learn how to ride a bike through games and drills, and another will learn by being pushed and trial and error. By catering my teaching strategy based on what I observe to work, I am a much more effective teacher.
