About

Hello!

My name is Kira and I am currently studying child development and psychology at California Polytechnic State University and I would love to help you or your child gain a better understanding of the school material you/they are learning.

I have volunteered as a chemistry tutor at my high school in the bay area. Doing so, I created material, lessons, tests, and homework - as well as spread the love for science. At the same high school, I also volunteered as a sign language tutor, this is another subject I would be eager to help tutor, or I could tutor in sign language, if needed.

Other than teaching high school students, I have also worked as a teaching assistant in a first grade classroom, aiding the children falling behind in their reading and writing, as well as basic math.

I believe children are the future and by helping them, we will make the future even brighter.

Seeing the face of a child who finally understands the work they are doing is such a rewarding feeling. Being able to instill a love of learning in a child is such an important aspect of being a teacher - it drives the child for the rest of their life

    Frequently asked questions

I begin by first gauging where the student's knowledge is, and understanding what they already know. Then, I determine what areas they need more help in and base my session around that. Usually looking at their homework and/or notes is a great place I like to start - it allows me to teach by using examples

I have volunteered as a chemistry and sign language tutor all throughout high school. Doing so has taught me the basics of being a tutor and how to better teach the topics I am aiding in. I have also worked in a first-grade classroom, which even further instilled these habits

I have not been a tutor for pay previously, I have only volunteered. Because of this, I start my prices at around $13/hour, which I think is pretty fair.

My interest in teaching began at a very young age. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to teach and help children. However, one moment that really stands out to me was was one time I was babysitting my younger cousins. They were about two or three at the time, and I started singing them the ABC's and teaching them the numbers. seeing their excitement made teaching so much more fun, and it was then that I concluded that I wanted to be a teacher

When I was tutoring chemistry, I taught in the summer school program. These were the kids that had previously failed the class and were taking it for a second time. By the end of the course, most of the children passed the class.

When tutoring sign language, I was teaching my own classmates who just needed slight correction and/or missed a lesson and needed to catch up.

When working in my first-grade class, I pulled aside the children who were falling behind to give them extra assistance, mostly in reading and writing.
