I have a significant track record of helping students break out of the middle ranks and find their true strengths and shining differences as top performers.
I'm different from most tutors in that the approach I take is to help you rapidly become master of your own learning. The skills and habits we'd focus on together will get you a terrific test score or grade. But more importantly, they'll make you a much stronger and much more independent learner for life.
I especially enjoy (and am good at) working with students who are under-confident or anxious around "hard" subjects such as math, physics, and music theory.
I earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University and spent 35 years working in the software and music industries. I started in researcher and engineering roles that grew into becoming CEO of a software company and owner of a music production company.
Now in the final "give back" phase of my working life, I focus with students on how to become independent and self-motivated learners.
I want you to become someone who knows how to teach yourself better than any tutor or teacher possibly could. My greatest success in this work would be making myself obsolete because there are no students left who need help learning.
Having spent my career often being the only woman in a room full of men, I have deep compassion for students who are under-confident or feel they “don’t get what’s going on,” or “don’t fit in.”
I learned how to thrive as a non-typical contributor and leader. My passion and commitment is to share what I’ve learned and to help grow confident, powerful members of the technical and musical professions.
My life experience has given me enormous compassion for anyone who believes - for whatever reason - that they are not “the right” type of person, or that they are not prepared to perform well at a challenging task. I’m here to help students find their power, their independence, and their own amazing abilities so that they can do what they want to do in life.

My first teaching and tutoring work was when I was in graduate school working on my computer science Ph.D. I caught the bug then and there, and since then have always looked for opportunities to create courses and teach lessons wherever I can.
You can see all the details of this on the "Teaching Experience" page of my resume at
I generally work with students 12-18 on test prep and for academic support for AP classes.
I am especially interested in helping somewhat under-confident or slightly anxious students who haven't found their "superpowers" yet.
