About
For the last fifteen years, I have taught English literature, language and writing in various capacities, including 6th-12th grade classrooms, as a private English tutor (in person and online), as a full-time online instructor, and as an ESL instructor. I am adept at using available materials and tailoring these to fit each student's specific area of interest and level of understanding. I build rapport with my students and parents, communicate clearly and promptly, and interact in a friendly and professional manner. I bring a lot of energy to my work, conduct tutoring sessions that engage students and build on their existing knowledge base, and accurately assess each student’s areas of need.
I have a master's degree in English/Comparative Literature and in Education, California and Oregon Teaching Credentials in English (with ELL authorization), and 15 years of classroom and tutoring experience, including experience providing virtual instruction through online schools and learning programs. In addition, I am a published author, photographer, public speaker, singer-songwriter, artist, and leader in my local community.
I believe that all students can learn and succeed! My goal is to comprehensively assess their areas of need, understanding any stumbling blocks, and to help them successfully reach their goals and achieve a sense of confidence in any given subject area. Although my primary focus has been English language, literature, research, and writing, I have also successfully taught 6th-12th grade in every core subject area, including math (through Algebra 1). I can also help students prepare for AP, SAT, CAHSEE, GED, GRE, IELTS, and college entrance exams and guide them on how to craft an excellent essay in any subject area. I have only marked subject areas on my profile in which I have multiple years of teaching experience, so you can be confident that your student will be successful in these areas under my tutelage.
Please feel free to contact me to see if we would be a good fit for one another! I look forward to working with you.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually conduct a free 15-minute phone call/session in which I ask questions about current area(s) of need. I talk about my approach and the details for meeting up for online tutoring, and then we set our first appointment date/time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
M.A. in English/Comparative Literature
M.Ed. in Secondary Education
CA Teaching Credential in English
OR Teaching Credential in English
15 years of classroom experience, including full-time, live, interactive, online classrooms.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide variety of students, from at-risk populations to high-achieving students. Some of my high-achieveing students were pursuing careers at a young age (professional athletes, actors, and models). I also have many SPED students (25% of my current student population), including those with speech therapy, autism, occupational therapy, 504s, and IEPs. I love teaching international students and helping ESL students to improve in their English language skills.
