Write Aid
About
I seek to help students improve their reading, writing, and research skills. I’m a creative writing MFA student with a BA in English literature. My experience as a professional copy editor and copywriter has given me a sharp eye for effective language. I have teacher training and in-class experience, and I love transforming students’ perceptions about literature and the English language.
I love watching students catch on. I love seeing the transformative effect reading and writing can have in their lives as they come to understand this important method of communication. I love watching them grow in confidence.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first assess the student's current skill level and determine exactly where any problems are. If the student is primarily having issues with grammar, I work with her and point her to some easily accessible and enjoyable guids and web videos that are usually funny and easy to understand.
If the student is having issues with research or logic, this takes more work. When the problem is with research, I teach the student how to use sources available in libraries and how to use the internet for research purposes. I also teach him how to determine whether a source is trustworthy and unbiased.
If the student is having trouble with logic and comprehension, I start with the excellent writing guide "They Say, I say." Using this book, I help students grasp the fundamentals of paper-writing and work their ways up to writing excellent, well-thought-out papers.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a current creative writing MFA student who has taken a graduate level teaching course and worked with composition students in the classroom. In addition to this, I have a BA in English literature and experience working as both a copywriter and copy editor.
