Sierra Jane Private Tutoring
About
I am currently a student at Western Governers' University studying to be a middleschool/highschool math teacher. I have a passion for learning and an adaptive approach to teaching. I have been trained through Sacramento City College's tutor training course and been tutoring since October 2017. I currently have 4 students that I tutor on a weekly basis in the Vacaville/Fairfeild area. I would like to expand my online clientele by offering Skype sessions. I have experience with elementary, middleschool, and highschool students. My goal with all of my students is to help them develop study skills that work for them and help them be consistant with their application of them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I first meet a new student I like to ask them what they feel that they are struggling with, and ask to see examples of their work that they have tried so far. This is so I can see their way of thinking on paper and analyze to see what we should focus on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently training to be a middleschool/highschool math teacher at Western Governers' University. I also went through Sacramento City College's training for tutors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $25 an hour for tutoring in person and online.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from elementary age all the way up to college age. Most recently I have had a lot of elementary and middleschool students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for a math tutor I would focus on finding someone flexible and intuitive, so that they can recognize where there are gaps in understanding and adjust the lesson accordingly.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have I read and re-read the problem many times and tried to break down what it is asking?
Have I checked my textbook/learning resource for example problems and explainations?
Have I asked my course instructor about the confusion that I am having (because they're free!)?
