General Tutoring

About

I have completed at least 1000hrs of tutoring from elementary schoolers to community college students and university students. I have always loved teaching and have found that I'm good at it. I tutored throughout high school, both informally and through various institutions.

I have over 100hrs of volunteering at schools where I worked primarily with 4th and 5th graders (but gained experience with all ages). Other than that, I worked at the Sierra College tutoring center for about a year as a general tutor (helping with any subject) and as an embedded peer tutor (helping in specific classes). I also have been a teaching assistant at CSU Long Beach for 3 semesters, tutoring and occasionally lecturing for a Personality class and fully teaching the lab of an Intermediate Psychology Statistics class.

In psychology, we learn about how we learn. I have been able to apply those concepts to my own learning and that of my students. I am excited to have my BA and start grad school this Fall.

Jessie had unlimited patience for my short attention span and poor understanding when it comes to math. No matter how many times I asked the same question in a different way she found a way to answer in a different way until I understood the problem. Shes super friendly and kept the mood up beat when I would stsrt to get frustrated. 10/10 I would ask Jessie to tutor me again

Jessica tutored me for my biostatistics course throughout my sophomore year. I struggled a lot with the conceptual parts of ANOVA, correlations, t-tests and several other statistical analyses. I couldn’t get higher than a C on the exams. I met Jessica through a friend and she immediately offered to help when she heard the words “stats”, despite having her own work to do. I could tell that she enjoyed teaching by her curious energy and incredibly respectful manner; to her it is like solving an intriguing puzzle, and I eventually learned to like statistics because of her, which is important because it is integral to my major and career. Thanks to Jessica, I got a bit better at understanding why and how to practice statistics effectively. I appreciate her patience with me.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to find out what help is needed (understanding the questions, or understanding the concepts themselves) and find something to make the learning more fun. For each concept learned, I try to develop steps for how to find the answer.

Students around me were struggling with concepts that I understood, so I offered to explain topics in a new way. Turns out, I was good at it.

I have worked with students ranging from Elementary School all the way through a 4-year university. Many students I have worked with have IEPs, too.
