About

I tutored all through high school; at first, just odd and ends with friends, and then I started working with City Year , a non-profit that worked with struggling schools. At city year, I would tutor in Algebra. After this, I started tutoring in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus as a part of National Honor Society. Other than this volunteer work, I have worked with my little brother for nearly his entire life in math, as he has a really difficult time with it. So, I have experience working with both elementary aged children as well as high schoolers in all levels of Primary and Secondary school mathematics. And although I have only tutored two students in Spanish, I am slightly more confident in my abilities in this than in Math.

As for my educational qualifications, I graduated from high school at the age of 15 in top 5% of my class with a 4.1 grade point average with Student of the Year honors from two organizations. During high school, I was in National Honor Society, Student Government, won multiple academic speech competitions, and more. Now, I am on the Dean's List at Northwestern University, one of the top 10 universities in the country, with a 3.75 GPA. I also participate in Student Government as well as Philanthropy Council and A Capella. I have ample academic experience and am eager to work with your student. And, due to the state of the world currently, I am also well-versed in technology, so online tutoring will not be a problem for me if you so prefer.

I enjoy being apart of a genesis. When we reach a breakthrough during tutoring, and I see someone's face light up when they feel that they have accomplished something, it makes all of the frustrating, academic stalls worth it. When a student believes that they are intelligent and deserve an education, not just because they have to, but because they want to, it is an incredible thing. I enjoy being apart of the genesis in, if not a love for learning, then in the pride and self-acceptance that comes with academic success.

Mychael tutored my 6-year-old daughter in Spanish and she loved her. They had fun together and spoke to her in a way that made it seem less like learning and more like they were just two girls, playing together, who happens to speak Spanish. She took it nice and slow, which was good for my daughter. The only negative thing I could think of was that she isnt completely fluent in the language. She has a very strong grasp on it but if you want to learn from a native speaker with perfect fluency, this isnt your tutor. But if you want someone who will work with your child in a way specified to them, Mychael is a great choice!

    Frequently asked questions

When I first start working with someone, I like to get a sense of their learning style. Students work best when you don't try to force a certain kind of learning style based on how you want to teach. Once I have sense of how they learn by asking a couple questions and trial and error, I'll begin helping them with whatever questions they have and working with their trouble areas before moving on to new material.

I have no formal training or education in teaching and tutoring others but I have lots of volunteer experience in tutoring with City year, a non-profit that works with struggling schools, National Honor Society, and frequent work with fellow students and friends while I was in High School. My current educational training is in sociology in Northwestern University.

I have worked with every pre-secondary academic level: elementary, middle, and high school students aged 5-15.

I suggest that students think about specific things they need help with and what their previous teachers have done that haven't worked with helping them with their needs. This way, they can articulate that and their teacher can work with specific targets, a more effective way of getting things done.
