Amy Soukup, Education Specialist K-12
About
I work with students of all abilities and levels, but I most often work with students who have identified and unidentified learning differences and challenges, offering targeted academic interventions to help them succeed. I have 7+ years experience working in schools as a classroom teacher and education specialist with grades K-8. I work with students 1:1 to design targeted, effective interventions in home, school, and other settings. I have training in reading, writing, and math multi-sensory methodologies and programs such as Orton-Gillingham. My holistic approach with each student incorporates executive functioning skills, hands-on learning, and kinesthetic activities to address a variety of needs.
I love the unique nature of each and every student and especially enjoy discovering each student's strengths while supporting areas of growth. Working with students often doesn't feel like work for me, and there is a lot of laughter, fun, and fascinating talks about the brain whie we learn. It is especially incredible to see students gaining empowerment to drive their own learning in a way that works for them!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step is a short consult by phone or e-mail to discuss your student, his or her needs, or your goals for working with an education specialist. If we agree it may be a good fit, I will schedule a one hour assessment and get-to-know-you session with your student, after which I will share my observations and we can determine a schedule based on frequency and length of sessions needed as well as refining academic goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my Masters in Special Education (mild/moderate disabilities) from University of San Francisco as well as a full Education Specialist credential. I have 7+ years of teaching in public, charter, and private schools inside and outside the classroom as well as experience providing one-on-one or small group targeted academic interventions in schools and homes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge by the hour, and pricing is determined based on a number of factors (location, estimated amount of prep and cost of materials, etc). We will discuss pricing as part of intake, however, I typically charge competitively (though a degree less) to specialized learning clinics in the local area. This rate includes my travel time, prep, and cost of materials.
