About this tutor

Hello! My name's Ailun (pronounced Allen), and I'm an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley planning to double major in biology + business along with a minor in creative writing. I've tutored students and peers for years now, and I'd be absolutely delighted to help you in your studies!

I've been a traditional tutor, and I have worked as a sensei in Code Ninjas, where I teach kids of various ages different science subjects. I've even taught elementary school kids watered down versions of topics taught in high school AP courses! I love seeing someone's eyes light up from finally understanding a subject they've been having difficulty to grasp because I've absolutely struggled with that, too.

Ailun is a caring, attentive, and sharp person. She can masterfully break down an essay and provide you thorough, actionable advice, as I experienced with her on my own college submissions. Not only is she excellent with teaching complicated concepts in simple terms, but Ailun is also able to truly listen to her students and understand what they need. If you're looking for a bright, compassionate, and effective tutor--she's the one.

Ailun is an excellent writer and a very helpful tutor. She has a lot of experience with college essays and with writing in general, and she's always willing to break down the elements of an essay and provide advice for her students when they need it. Beyond writing, she has an impressive ability to convey scientific knowledge to students, making the most difficult concepts entertaining and easy to grasp. She's also patient and willing to work with students through their challenges, no matter how long it takes.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

If it's your first time with me as your tutor, don't worry! You can reach out to me via text, and we can figure out a study plan that works best for you. I want to make sure that you're able to get a quality tutoring experience tailored specially for you.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've worked as a Biology Sensei at my local Code Ninjas for over a year. There, I design lab experiments and teach various little mini lessons to kids ages 6 through 14, so I'm used to teaching all different kids in all sorts of subjects. I've also tutored middle and high school students the past year in subjects including Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Biology.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

For regular tutoring sessions, it will be $30/hour or $25/hour if you purchase in a 5-session bundle.

For college admissions essays, I charge $10 for advising on outlining and picking good essay ideas. Basic grammar/spelling editing for an already written essay is $10. For $20, I will do a complete in-depth edit by changing syntax, diction, and helping you make your overall essay sound engaging and exciting.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching when I first started my job at Code Ninjas, and I haven't stopped since!
