Elementary K-5 Tutoring
About
As a tutor, I try to give curriculum materials that support the child's needs, but also help them to advance in school by aligning to the school's challenging material or supporting the level of struggle that some grade levels carry in Common Core subjects. I tutor to support students in the long-term growth, not for short-term learning . I work to help students see progress in all their hard work practiced & expressed over time.
I love to help students see school to be engaging by using materials that help them develop interest in school subjects.
For special needs & neurodivergent students, I am Orton-Gillingham trained for Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia for K-12 students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually I prefer to give curriculum materials supplied by me.
I talk to the parent during first meeting to discuss on what academic areas are needed for academic support & how to maintain skills for school.
The student simply needs basic school supply materials: pencils, erasers, crayons, scissors, glue sticks.
Also, a quiet, non distracting area is a great place for the student to work at during sessions.
Afterwards, when both student & parent are ready, we will schedule sessions to begin.

Look for a tutor that you need for success, but also what can challenge you to go beyond your limits, to excel in school comfortably, especially when working w/ Common Core subjects.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do students need to think about their expectations for school, vs how school actually is, as schoolwork can be a challenge?
