About
I always try to engage with students at their current level of experience or comfort as we work together to gradually yet steadily improve that level. I provide fully worked-out examples when necessary and enjoy doing math work alongside my students.
I am passionate about learning and understanding mathematics and I enjoy communicating this passion as best I can to others. I have been tutoring mathematics for over a year now and have covered subjects from pre-Algebra to Calculus BC.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In collaboration with the student and/or their parent(s), I will identify general or specific areas for improvement. Then, the student and I will together develop tutoring strategies that work for them, which can be modified and refined as we build rapport.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Kenyon College and have been tutoring math for over a year.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My summer rate is $40/hour (1 hour minimum) scaled proportionally for tutoring sessions that extend beyond an hour.
During the school year, my rate is $50/hour (1 hour minimum) as demand for tutoring is higher, also scaled proportionally.
I offer a $10/hour discount, per student, for tutoring two students. For instance, over the summer, my price for tutoring two students is $30/hour/student, for a total price of $60/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I provided a lot of pro bono, unofficial homework help to various friends of mine in high school and college, enjoyed the collaborative process of communicating mathematical knowledge and expertise, and decided to pursue math tutoring on a more professional basis.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with middle-school and high school students, some below, some at, and some above the standard level of mathematical competency for their grade. I am also happy to work with younger students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent student of mine who had experienced a challenging semester in geometry, after a week's worth of tutoring in a particular chapter, scored 100% on a pop-quiz at the end of the week and told me after that they enjoyed taking it.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would ask about any potential problems or deal-breakers with your prospective teacher or tutor up-front, and if you simply want to get a feel for their teaching style, arrange for a single tutoring session as a trial run to see what you get out of it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1) How do I enjoy learning math?
2) Under what circumstances have I been most successful and/or engaged in math before?
3) What are my reasons for pursuing tutoring? Or the goals I want to see achieved?
