Oxford Private Tutoring
About
After tutoring for many years, I have begun to specialize in elementary kids. Those fundamentals are key and I have seen what happens when the little ones get behind. It's so important to get on the right track early on- I'm passionate about that.
I've been tutoring for 20 years. I started volunteering to tutor my equestrian students to ensure their grades were sufficient to continue the privilege of riding and competing. I found that my passion for teaching horsemanship did not end there! I tutored “my” horse riding students for years, helping them with everything from literature to science projects. After retiring from horse training, I made my “side” job, my main focus. I have homeschooled 4th & 5th grade as a tutor and worked with students from kindergarten to senior year. I attended Purdue University, ran my own business for 15 years, am a published and award winning writer.
I love seeing that light bulb moment in a child's eyes when something they've been struggling with clicks! I love helping them discover that reading shouldn't be a chore. I love being a part of something that puts kids on a positive trajectory in their life.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
it should go without saying but the first thing I do is reassure the student that I'm there to help and that I'm on their side. Showing them they can relax is key to creating an environment conducive to learning.
My first priority is to assess the student’s way of thinking. It may sound like an oversimplification but understanding how the student processes information is key to successfully imparting new information, improving study habits, and giving a positive approach to his/her education.
