I am a senior in high school who enjoys working with children. I have been tutoring for 3 years, for either my classmates, or with children. As a Kumon Tutor, I mostly worked with kids from preschool to 8th grade. Additionally, I also volunteered at a special education transitional kindergarten. I build bonds with my students and help them learn how to love studying. To do this, I will talk to both the parent and the child their preferred method of learning, welcoming any and all feedback. I look forward to working with you!

I am a high school senior heading to Cornell University this coming fall. With over 3+ years of teaching experience, I have a passion for working with students of all academic levels and ages, ranging from kindergarten to high school. I first started teaching because of my love for kids. Additionally, as someone who was always excited about learning from a young age, it brings me to joy to be able to pass this enthusiasm to my students. I strongly believe in nurturing, positive, and patient learning environments, where children can develop their curiosity and confidence. Having been in 2nd grade during the switch to the Common Core, I am

Special education tutors help students with mild to severe cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. Special needs tutors modify the general education curriculum to meet the child's individual needs and involve themselves in each student's social and behavioral development.

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.
  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.
  • Multiple Impairments (MI) – a child with multiple disabilities in this list.
  • Orthopedic Impairment (OI) – covers impairments in kids who lack function or ability in their bodies, such as cerebral palsy.
  • Other Health Impairment (OHI) – conditions that limit a child's strength, energy, or alertness such as ADHD.
  • Specific learning disability (SLD) – conditions such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder, or nonverbal learning disability.
  • Speech or Language Impairment (SI) – covers difficulties such as stuttering, pronouncing words, making sounds with the voice, or understanding words.

Michaela was supportive, kind, and helpful during my college application process. She worked with me to develop my own ideas, providing specific guidance with editing my writing, and more broad assistance with structuring and developing my thoughts. She helped me strengthen my own writing while ensuring that my voice remained at the forefront. She cares deeply about her students and is incredibly knowledgeable about the college application and essay writing process. I would definitely recommend her and her services!
