I am an experienced elementary and Middle math tutor who has assisted in the Pacifica School District as a volunteer math coach for students.
I am patient with kids who need to build math confidence with positive coaching in math to get to grade level.
I am very familiar with the Bridges and CPM math curriculum and common core math standards and can help kids who need homework help.
For students looking for an extra math challenge, I love challenging them with math investigations and seeing how math is everywhere.
I love finding different ways to help a student understand a concept that they are struggling to understand. It engages my creativity and ability to communicate in many different ways - pictures, words, numbers, even movement, and rhythm. I love seeing kids grow confident about using their newfound mathematical powers.
Math was Such a challenge for my child. LiLing teaches in a way best suited for my child. She observes the way my child learns and teaches so that my child understands and learns. Her patience and support is excellent! Seeing my child’s confidence in math is soo rewarding .
LiLing is smart, kind and knows how to challenge the student without overwhelming them. She knows WHAT the schools are teaching and she understands HOW to explain math concepts so they are useful and useable. LiLing has my highest recommendation.
The first two lessons, I will spend assessing where the student is for their grade level and build rapport and confidence.
Next, I will meet with the student's parents to discuss a plan and set some goals about what we want to accomplish during our tutoring sessions and find a regular time to meet.
I check-in with parents at the end of each lesson for a few minutes to give parents an update on what process we are making, discuss recommendations for supporting their students, and setting new goals.
I have volunteered as a math coach for 10 years at Ocean Shore School in the Pacifica School District working at all grade levels from K-8th grade with students in the classroom, in small groups, and one on one.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
I was educated in Singapore which is famous for it's vigorous and excellent mathematics education.
$75/hour for one on one
$100/hour for two students
$120/hour for a group of three students
I started volunteering as a math aid at Ocean Shore because my kids loved math and I wanted to keep them engaged and curious about math. Some years, I worked more with advanced students, other years, I worked with students who were struggling and needed one on one support.
Three years ago, some fellow parents asked if I would tutor their middle school students to provide math homework support. I enjoyed it so much that I have continued to tutor students K-8th grade students ever since.
I've worked with students from K-9th grade (Algebra 1).
I've had some students with neurological challenges and others with attention challenges that make big group learning a difficult.
Being good at math is different from being good at teaching math. A good math teacher is one who can communicate well with the student, who can relate to the struggle and will find different ways to help a student understand a mathematical concept.
