About
I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Recording Technology from San Diego State University and to return very shortly to another school for a Master's in International Business.
I have been tutoring in math for 2 years in CA now since returning home from school. I have enjoyed every moment with each student and have been blessed to witness dramatic score improvements from students and even an enjoyment for the classes.
Middle school and High school students who were once avering C- in math were now scoring in the 90s percentile on all assignments and even on major tests!
I tutor both online and remotely. So much that I actually have one student I tutor from out of state in CO! Within a year in a half, I have tutored 5 unique students on a weekly, basis. Some tutoring once a week, others up to 3 times a week given the need.

Seeing the improvement of grades tremendously and a growing enjoyment for the subject as a whole, and even within the student has been the greatest reward of all.
I have a current student I tutor right now who is in elementary school who repeatedly scored 100% on every spelling test ever since we started.
Another student I have when I initially started tutoring them scored really low on a test and we studied for the retake. When the retake test came back out of 20 questions this student had only missed one queston.
Seeing these student believe in themself and their abilities, growing in confidence, and consistently doing it week after week is a rewarding experience.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I get to know the student a little bit as well as introducing myself to allow them to be comfortable and feel like they are understood as they relay to me areas they are strong in and seek improvement in. I allow the student and/or their parent to choose what we work on and walk me through what they already know. Then when we get to that obstacle where they need help, I allow the student and/parent explain how they have been addressing it. Then we work to find ways to improve, just to get a feel of how I can better help the student going forward.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
4 years of high school math (from Algeba 2, Pre-Calc, up to dual enrollment math (college alegra)

How did you get started teaching?
I found myself always wanting to help others, especially children and teens. I myself remembered what it was like when I was younger, receiving additional help from others in certain subjects and wanted to be able to do the same for them.
What types of students have you worked with?
High school students, most involved in extra ciricular sports and cheer
Middle School students who were quiet and reserved, some i found were actually afraid to ask for help in class
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure your teacher can relate to you, one thing I have learned from my former students and current students I tutor is that they enjoy having someone who can relate, understand where they are, speaking TO them and not AT them. In addition to that, make sure who you hire, that they can give you advice from being ahead of that place now to direct you forward in your endeavors for your classes now and to come.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be honest with yourself and ask
What are my stregnths and weaknesses?
What would I specifically like to improve in (whether it be grades, study habits and tips, retention, etc.)
Why am I having difficulty understanding this particular subject or topic? (is it because of how it is explained, hard time remembering information, environment? etc.)
