How did you get started teaching?
American English College started in 1983 with the goal to help students acheive their academic and professional goals.
What types of students have you worked with?
All of our students are international, and come from various countries, backgrounds, and English level proficencies.
We are familiar with the struggles of acquiring a second language, and have perfected our process so students are motivated, engaged and actively learning throughout their experience.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Since 1983, we have added to our network of qualified instructors, allowing you to only access vetted, trained, and experienced tutors. If you find your tutor is not right for you, we will find one that is – free of charge!
We also have 30+ partnerships with community colleges and universities, allowing our students to gain gaurenteed admissions into our partner schools without the need of a TOEFL score.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What goals are they looking to achieve (personally what do you hope to get out of acquiring the language)?
Are you looking to excel in an academic or professional setting (For example: TOEFL Prep, English for a particular industry, etc.)?
What kind of skills are you looking to improve upon (For example: Listening + Speaking, Reading + Vocabulary, Writing + Grammar, Slang, Pronunciation, Presentation Skills, Conversation)?
