About
I understand the struggles students, especially struggling students, have had with feeling lost in a large class while learning online. I build a connection with my students from the get-go, and they receive my skilled support and encouragement every step of the way. I have researched and implemented the most effective and engaging online tools to recreate the effectiveness of a 1:1 in person tutoring experience.
I have over 18 years experience with teaching elementary aged children reading and math, both in the classroom as well as in a 1:1 tutoring setting. My area of expertise is with struggling learners, regardless of whether or not they have an identified learning disability. I implement research based methods: explicit, systematic, multisensory instruction, using an Orton Gillingham approach.
I truly love what I do and I look forward to scheduling our first meeting to find out more about what your child is struggling with and how I can help.
I feel deeply satisfied with my chosen profession. There is nothing I enjoy more than watching my students grow and feel a sense of accomplishment and confidence. My students typically come to me with low self-esteem and I just love how they smile with pride with each new success they experience in reading. I enjoy walking with parents through their journey as well. Parents come to me with concern for their children, and as a parent myself, I understand that concern all too well. As parents watch their child's skills grow, I get to witness the relief and joy they feel for their child as their worries begin to melt away and the reading struggle becomes a thing of the past.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After a free phone or online consultation with a parent (which includes a Zoom lesson demo), the initial meeting with a student is an assessment. It is for me to get to know your child's areas of strength and weakness to guide instruction. As most of my students suffer from some amount of "school anxiety" due to their struggles, I take some time to get to know my students and build their trust in me as well as in themselves to become capable and curious learners.
Each student is a unique individual, therefore, they receive an individualized plan. I partner with parents to discuss the plan and the frequency of sessions and goals for their child.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am Orton Gillingham trained through IMSE, and have hands on training with a variety of Orton Gillingham based curricula.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with both the general education population as well as the special education population with an emphasis in special education. I've worked with students who've been diagnosed with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADD/ADHD, ASD, OCD, visual and auditory processing disorders, Down's Syndrome, and spina bifida.
