I specialize in Kindergarten - 5th grade levels. I make the lessons fun as well as useful. I'm a trained actress as well as a teacher. I believe that when a student is interested in the topic or lesson they learn quickly and retain the material well. My approach is to get to know the student and provide them with the kind of lesson and accompanying material that will stimulate their curiosity and inspire them to learn more.
I have a master's degree in teaching English. I also have 16 years of classroom teaching. I have had large classes, small classrooms, and 1:1 tutoring both in person and online. I have taught students as young as 3 and as old as 86.
I love to see the improvement made by students and the smiles on their faces when they master a task that at one time seemed impossible to them. That brings me great joy.
Our first session is gratis and follow up sessions are $125 per month for a one hour lesson per week.
I am super excited to meet you and get started.
Cynthia is a wonderful tutor. She has been helping our 2nd grader with English and Writing for the past 9 months. Not only is Cynthia an experienced teacher, she is also very warm and kind. Our son loves his lessons with Teacher Cynthia because she always tries to make the lessons engaging by understanding her students personal interests. She also leverages many different tools from online educational platforms to news articles to make the lessons interesting. In addition to being wonderful with kids, Cynthia also take time to connect with the parents. She sets up times to check in with us each month so both sides can understand what works and what can be improved. She makes every effort to adjust her lessons based on our feedback. Overall, we are really happy with teacher Cynthia and feel very lucky to have found her.
I highly recommend hiring Cynthia Fagan as an English as a Second Language tutor. She is very professional and knows a lot on how to teach, encourage and tutor students. I need help with improving my writing skills. She assigns me Newsela articles to read and write about. She gives me assignments on each article. Then she marks and makes notes on my writing and returns them to me to review and make the changes before our scheduled meeting time. We then meet and discuss, and I get a chance to ask my questions. Also, I wanted to read and write on the Falter book and recommended us to work on the book in addition to the Newsela articles. She purchased the book to comply with my request and has been reading the book and giving me prompts to write. She then corrects my writing, and we discuss. I could not hire a better tutor and really appreciate all her hard work and efforts.
Teacher Cynthia tutors my daughter in English writing. She is a patient and professional tutor. My daughter loves her teaching and I'm very glad to find Cynthia as my daughter's writing tutor. I heartily recommend her to other who are looking for a writing tutor!
I really like Cynthia. She is a professional teacher. She gave me a test on the first class to learn about my abilities. She always gives me lots to work on and gives me good instruction. She is a native English speaker and she speaks clearly and slowly enough for us to understand her. She gives a free session so you can decide if you like her too.
I offer a free session to determine what the student's learning goals are, his or her current level of competency, and learning style. I determine if we are a good fit for one another and if we both agree to proceed, I will write up an individualized learning plan for the student and a lesson plan for the first paid class.
I have a master's degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages. I also have more than 16 years of experience in teaching students of all ages and nationalities.
$125 per month for a one hour class each week. The monthly rate is paid in advance on the 1st day of each month.
I began teaching when I was in college. I took some courses on teaching English and writing. I taught creative writing to a group of "at risk" high school students. After that year I went to Japan and taught a group of doctors how to speak and write better English. I decided to become an English teacher after college.
I have worked with all ages and most nationalities. I currently choose to work with preschool through sixth grade students of any nationalitiy. My favorite student is one who is eager to learn and willing to take direction.
