About
I am skilled in both science and math as well as writing and communication. If you need assistance not only with understanding technical concepts but also in communicating and putting them into words, I'm here and ready to help. I am also available for help editing and revising written assignments and general writing advice.
I enjoy the challenge of finding new ways to present information so that it's understandable and exciting for each individual.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At our first meeting, my goal is to get on the same page about subject matter, difficulty level, and learning expecations.
After that, I'll talk with the student to find out more about their level of understanding and background knowledge as well as their strengths and weakness.
From there, we'll work together to figure out what learning style works best for them! For example, I'm personally a very visual learner and find diagrams and models helpful, but have worked with students who are better with verbal explanations or writing things out.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a M.S. in Oceanography from University of Rhode Island and a B.S. in Physics (with a minor in Geology and additional extensive coursework in English) from University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
Experience highlights:
*As a teaching assistant while earning my M.S. I organized individual and group study sessions for a variety of science courses, focusing on the ocean & atmosphere, and the geological, physical, and biological processes within them.
*As an Outreach Scientist, I've successfully taught younger students (8-14) basic environmental science concepts. One of my workshops for 3rd graders was praised as the students' favorite out of their week-long program.
*As a tutor for an alternative education organization I provided personalized lesson plans for teenagers in physics, chemistry, computer programming, and math. After leaving the job to focus on my own coursework, one family requested that I continue working with their son since I was able to connect with him where others were not.
*While earning my B.S. in Physics, I excelled in a variety of English and Writing courses on the side and still maintain a passion for clear communication.

How did you get started teaching?
I took a part-time job as a tutor in college and loved it. When I entered grad school, I found other opportunities such as Teaching Assistant and Outreach Scientist positions. I love taking on the challenge of helping others learn.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with ages 8 and up, but have only provided formal tutoring and study help for teens and college students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that they aren't only an expert in the subject but also in communication and teaching.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What DO you understand or what have you been successful at, and why?
