I am an experienced, credentialed math teacher who has helped hundreds of students learn math. I have taught a variety of math courses in alignment with the CA Common Core State Standards at Beechwood Middle School, Tustin High School, and Culver City Middle School. I currently teach math (grades 4-8) at Optimum Hockey Academy in Irvine, CA and I am also an online math teacher for Sage Oak Charter schools.
My experience teaching in the classroom and online has allowed me to develop effective strategies to help students learn math. Math is a foundational subject and this is why I chose to get a teaching credential to teach foundation-level mathematics, so that I can help students have the strong foundation they need to be successful in math.
Every student benefits greatly from one-to-one math tutoring from an experienced math teacher. This is why I have an online math tutoring business called "Math Tutoring with Stephanie."

I enjoy getting to meet a student where they are at in their academics and creating pathways to help them get to where they need be according to grade-level standards. Most of all, I get excited when the light bulb goes off for a student and a math concept finally makes sense to them. It is a joy to have a front row seat in witnessing a student get to a place where they can confidently walk me through the application of a math concept on their own!
It was such a pleasure to work with Math Tutoring with Stephanie! Stephanie was always very organized and well prepared to tutor my son. She had pre-planned lessons, great visuals, math manipulatives and gave my son a break when needed. Stephanie is patient, caring and definitely knows how to teach math in an impressive way that helped my son. I highly recommend Math Tutoring with Stephanie. :)
I really struggled in geometry during my sophomore year of high school, Ms. Specht changed that and made the concepts really easy for me to understand. She helped me understand geometry theorems and I was finally able to write geometry proofs because she explained it so well. My confidence in math improved and I was able to pass the class. I definitely couldn’t have done it without her so I truly recommend her to be your tutor.
Ms. Specht is an amazing teacher. I have enjoyed her class since day one. She explains things to me in a way that actually makes sense. I have never had this much improvement in math with any other teacher. In elementary school I was barely making passing grades for tests. I thought that I was terrible at math and I could never be better. In Ms. Specht’s class I proved myself wrong. I got better grades thanks to Ms. Specht!
Stephanie has really helped our son Michael in middle school math. I was having a hard time as a parent trying to help my son, especially because the math he is learning is taught differently then when I learned it. Stephanie is very kind and my son enjoyed her tutoring sessions. I have to say, at first I wasn't sure if online tutoring would work, but once I saw how she would teach from her iPad we were amazed. My son and I are both impressed with how her online tutoring makes the math concepts really clear to see. We are very happy with Stephanie's online tutoring services and how convenient it has been for our family! -Taylor (Michael's mom)
When I begin working with a new student, I will provide a free pre-assessment to identify any gaps in learning that the student may have as well as see what math concepts they already understand.
I will also collaborate with the parent to learn more about the needs of the student and ask them what outcome are they look to achieve from tutoring.

Make sure that you get a tutor who is not only an expert in the level of math you need tutoring in, but who understands how to teach math. Some math tutors only know how to explain the way they learned math, but a credentialed and experienced teacher will understand how to teach math in a variety of ways to address different learning needs.
