Private Math Tutoring Sessions
About
I am passionate about helping young people in the fields of math and english. I think it is important for children to have teachers and tutors that care about their overall well-being and who are willing to provide them whatever support they need in order to be successful (not just in school but in life).
I love working with students on an individual basis. This gives me the freedom to help them in a unique way tailored to their learning style instead of trying to force them to conform to set standards.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I don't come into a session with a preconceived idea of what the students should know or what I am going to teach them. I let them tell me what they desire to learn from our sessions together and then I provide them with a customized service that meets their individual needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
10 years working for a Leadership Training Program
4 years as a Summer Camp Counselor for K-7
2.5 years as a Second Grade Teacher
1 year tutoring for the Youth Support Program
How did you get started teaching?
I believe that education is extremely important but unfortunately, our country does not always seem to think that this is the case (budget cuts, teachers' low salaries etc). I want to help provide a quality education for young people so that they can be informed citizens who have a desire to help their communities and make the world a better place. The best way to do that is to provide students with a well balanced education from the time they are young.
What types of students have you worked with?
children 5-12
teenagers 13-19
young adults 20-30
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my students was having a hard time preparing for one of her spelling tests. She kept telling herself that she was not smart enough and that she was going to fail the test. I encouraged her to have a more positive attitude about herself and to have a more optimistic outlook on her test. For example, instead of going into a test thinking, "I will fail this test", she could think, "I am nervous for this test but I will give my best and will earn a grade I can be proud of". She was able to change her attitude about the test and did very well.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who is relatable and is willing to meet you where you're at. If they are talking down to you or treating you as if you are stupid, they are not a great teacher. Teachers need to be patient. Sometimes we will need to repeat a topic multiple times or teach it from different perspectives for our students to understand what we are teaching. If your teacher is not willing to do that or they become impatient with you, they may not be the best fit for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They can think of specific subjects they need help with and see if the method that the teachers uses to try and explain that topic works for them. They can also ask them how they would deal with a student who is having a hard time learning the material or who is at a lower level than where the teacher expects them to be. This will give the students an idea of how the teacher will respond to them if they are struggling with a topic or not able to move as quickly as the teacher would like or expects.
