I taught high school and jr. high in Illinois and Missouri for 10 years before moving to California and starting my tutoring business. I tutored students from 3rd grade through Calculus for 12 years. I am experienced at onlne tutoring, and am a volunteer math tutor for Casa de Amistad in Solana Beach.
I can help students with their homework or supply many resources to supplement their learning. It is important in math to have a solid foundation, as math learning builds on previous learning. I can identify and fill in the holes in a students math background to give them the ability to move forward successfully.
I enjoy getting students excited about math and giving them the confidence to succeed. I like to see my students improve their grades, and feel more successful and confident as the gain the knowledge they need.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I can help with homework and work with the student on skills that they have missed. If no work is assigned by the teacher, I can diagnose and help solve the problems. I have a Master's degree in special education, which includes experience in diagnosing and remediating difficulties in learning. Since math is a subject that builds on itself, missing a few critical skills can cause many problems in later classes.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters of Education in special education with special concentration in math.I also have Bachelors degree in Chemistry with minor in physics. After teaching for 10 years, I have been tutoring math for over 10 years in Encinitas.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price for working electronically is $20 per half hour sessions. This can be adapted to longer sessions if desired, or for long term commitments. The actural price can be worked out depending on many factors.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from third grade, through college calculus. I have also taught students with learning disabilities for 10 years. I have enjoyed teaching both those that excelled in math, as well as those students who have severe difficulties with the subject.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Tutoring at Casa de Amistad is an incredible experience, seeing the number of low income and disadvantaged students all working hard with their tutors to better their education.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a tutor who can discover your strengths and weaknesses, and use those strengths to improve your math skills.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want to accomplish? Do you just want to finish the assigned homework and be done? Or, do you really want to understand what you are learning?
