Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First of all, I need to know how do you feel when working with numbers. Some people have predisposed attitudes when doing Math and we have to get rid of them first and foremost.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Currently studying biology in college and have finished up to Calculus 1 and some programming so I am very confident with math.
How did you get started teaching?
In college I noticed a lot of people are simply left behind because they are too shy to ask questions and they eventually fail. After high school professors don't care for your grades and will not help you if you're not eager to learn, plus they aren't eager to teach. I rather teach 1 on 1 because it's most helpful for the student and I won't let them fail.
What types of students have you worked with?
From 16 year old teenagers to 60 year old ladies. Most of them not very school oriented and still succeed.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am currently enrolled in a Physical Science class and I am teaching a lot of my classmates that do not really understand before class, and even send me questions anytime they can and I do it for free. The concepts are very hard but the math is quite easy and alot of them get confused because of the big words, and I feel its what happens to most people. I have help them find the simplicity in the mathematics they're doing, disregarding loaded definitions.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Listen to how eager this teacher is to actually teach and make sure their energy levels synergize with yours. A lot of times when you and somebody else work out of frequency the results are poor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Try to ask something you can't honestly answer yourself, but never be afraid to ask anything just be very good at listening.
