Cathy's Tutoring
About
I am a retired community college instructor. I worked for nearly 30 years in the English Department, helping struggling students improve their reading and writing. Since my retirement, I have worked one-on-one with middle school and high school students, helping them to raise their grades in the courses varying from history, math, and English. What makes my tutoring stand out is my versatility. I am comfortable tutoring nearly any subject (with the exception of chemistry).
I enjoy seeing my students succeed!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to know what the student's expectations are. With that in mind, I purchase whatever the necessay support materials. For example, if learning content for a history class is the goal, I will get the assigned reading material, read it, and prepare instructional notes. Preparation is crucial for me, so when I do meet with each of my tutees, I am completely familiar with what they need to learn.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Academically, I earned my Masters Degree in Eductation with an emphasis in reading, resulting in my having a reading specialist credential.
During all of my professional career as a full-time community college English faculty member, I worked with students who struggled with reading and/or writing. I had oversight over the college's reading program as well as the writing center, which served all students who needed help with their writing. Individualized instruction was my area of expertise.
