English / French Tutoring
About
I grew up in the UK where I started learning French in 3rd grade and have worked for the last 17 years at the elementary campus of Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, mainly teaching English as a foreign language to French kids and French as a foreign language to American kids. During my time at the Lycée, I have tutored former students, parents of former students and colleagues in English as well as doing some free-lance tutoring of adults in French. I have enough proficiency in French to teach it to an advanced level, enough proficiency in Spanish to teach it to an intermediate level and English has always been a particular specialty and area of strength for me.
I studied English for two years at Oxford University before moving to the U.S. I then graduated Summa Cum laude from Pepperdine University with a bachelors degree in French, where I won an award for the most outstanding student in the foreign language department, and I went on to do a masters in Education at Capella University from which I graduated with distinction (and a 4.0 GPA).
What I love about tutoring is helping students develop skills and confidence in themselves, while enjoying the feeling of learning and making progress. My greatest asset as a teacher is my capacity for supporting and encouraging students by emphasizing strengths and progress. I appreciate the relationship between confidence, growth and motivation, so sensitivity, patience, and understanding are guaranteed.
