About

With over six years of tutoring experience, I have worked with elite private schools in New York City, preparing students of all ages for the ISEE/SSAT/SHSAT, as well as high schoolers for the SAT & ACT. With a consistent record of successful private school admissions, I am excited to continue guiding hard-working students toward success.

I worked as a professional and private tutor in New York City for over five years - I now reside in Los Angeles, and am committed to bringing my East coast experience to California.

I primarily work via Zoom, and I enjoy working with students around the world. Schedule via Calendly.

Sharlee was amazing! She helped my daughter go from a 27 to a 34 on the ACT. Were so excited for her score, and get this - my daughter actually misses her ACT sessions with Sharlee. Amazing. THANKS SHARLEE!

Frequently asked questions

My philosophy is each and every student is unique - therefore, my approach to each student must be unique as well.

Most students I work with fall in to one of two categories - either standardized test prep (students preparing for a test like the ISEE, SSAT, ACT, SAT, or SHSAT) or academic support (students seeking support for a particular challenging class).

If I'm working with a student on standardized test support, I recommend each student begin with a practice test. This is our benchmark, so we can track our progress together. If students are unable to take a practice test due to time constraints, don't worry - there's still a lot we can do together. I always make it a priority to actually begin our test-taking journey with tried and tested test-taking strategies - that way, in just one session, students will feel more confident about their work.  From there, support will be more individualized. Some students need help on learning new content - with those students, we'll focus on developing academic skills in Reading and Math. Some students have a solid understanding of content, but need assistence with test-taking anxiety.

Regardless of what the need is, I work with the student to discover where the gaps in learning are, and we attack those gaps strategically with boldness and determination.

I attended the University of California, Berkeley, where I graduated magna cum laude, was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society, and received the Mark Goodson’s Prize for Distinguished Talent.

After my undergraduate experience on the West Coast, I attended Harvard University, graduating with my Master’s degree in Theatrical Studies. I also studied Sociolinguistics & Spanish at the University of Salamanca in Spain, where I discovered my passion for tutoring while working as an English language teacher. As a tutor, I employ a variety of pedagogical techniques, catering to each student’s individual academic needs.

FREE 10-minute diagnostic session (Sundays only):

-Discuss strategy:

  • Debating between SAT and ACT?
  • Unsure about when to schedule your test?
  • For academic support, are you looking for some advice on a particular class, or dealing with a teacher?
  • Not sure if a tutor is for you?

These are great questions to bring up during our 10 minute diagnostic session!

Academic Support: $60/session

  • All sessions one-hour in length
  • Available to meet Friday, Sunday, and weekdays
  • Subjects: Math, Science, Writing, Reading Comprehension, Social Studies, Spanish, and more! If you're unsure, feel free to ask.

Standardized Test Prep: $85/session

  • All sessions one-hour in length
  • Available to meet Friday, Sunday, and weekdays
  • Tests include: SAT, ACT, SSAT, SHSAT, ISEE, AP tests, and more! If you're unsure, feel free to ask.

With standardized test prep sessions, you also get:

  • 3 sessions, 1 hour each
  • Individualized lesson plans
  • Homework assignments catered to the student's needs (instead of generic homework you'd get from a pre-recorded source)
  • 1 diagnostic test and 3 practice tests, scored and graded for you.
  • All communication via email answered within 24 hours - no long wait times if you have content questions or homework questions

*We're busy people - I get that. Because of that, I have a flexible, 6 hour reschedule policy. You are able to reschedule all sessions six hours before the start time.

I've worked with students of all ages, ranging from elementary to college.
