About

Hi there! My name's Kaya, and I'm here to help! Whether it's getting into grad school or laying a solid foundation for learning, each of you is working toward a meaningful academic goal, and I'd like to support you as best as I'm able.

I know from personal experience that learning can sometimes be quite intimidating, so I take care to maintain a positive and affirming approach toward clients. The learning process isn't just about memorization and mastering material. It's also about fostering confidence and a growth mindset that will pay dividends in the long run. As a tutor, I'm a big believer in the value of looking for steady rather than overnight progress, celebrating small victories, and offering reassurance that stumbles are a healthy and necessary part of learning.

A little bit about my background. I'm a proud Stanford alumna with a degree in mathematics. After graduating, I worked as a math instructor at Stanford's Education Program for Gifted Youth. During my time there, I had the privilege to teach classes at Stanford Online High School, as well as train students for prestigious mathematics competitions. I also helped mentor students' summer projects as a counselor at Stanford Math Camp (SUMaC). Since then, I had the fortune to volunteer as a specialist math coach with the Sweetwater High academic team on their first ever qualification for the California Academic Decathlon state competition. I'm so proud of them!

For those of you interested in applying to graduate programs, my personal experience can hopefully provide some insight in how to best prepare for whatever exams you're planning to take. With plenty of practice, I managed to score 770 (99th percentile) on the GMAT and a maximum 340 on the GRE General Test.

In my spare time, you'll find me at a trivia contest or a bridge tournament. I'm also a huge fan of racket sports, and over the past several years, I've taken up squash, beach tennis, table tennis, and padel. Hobbies like these remind me that learning is a lifelong process that goes beyond academics, and challenging myself to learn new things keeps me humble and makes life interesting.

If you've read everything about me so far and think I'd be a good fit for your learning style, please feel free to get in touch! I promise I'm super nice.
