About

After 30 years of service as a Math teacher with LAUSD, I

retired this spring. I am tutoring online,

either 1 on 1 or in a small group.

I’ve taught every math content area up through AP

Calculus, co-taught special education students for over 10 years, and I’m

well-versed with online teaching.

I will tutor in the following areas:

• Algebra 1 and 2

• Geometry

• Pre-Calculus

• AP Statistics and non-AP Statistics

• Intro to Data Science

• Middle School, High School, and College levels

I have been a Master Teacher with Math for America (MfALA) for 6

years, and am now an Emeritus Fellow. This means I will

continue to receive excellent professional development

monthly, and will be up-to-date with current practices and

technology to enhance student learning.

5 stars isnt enough to explain how amazing she is. She never gave up on me, even when I ask for her to repeat something over and over again. She is an incredible educator and an incredible person.

Back when I was a junior in High school I was afraid of Algebra II because I have always needed extra help with math classes. From day one I saw that Ms. Burkhart loved teaching and helping others, by offering tutoring during breaks and being enthusiastic in class. She made math fun and easy to understand with lecture notes, slides and activities. Ms. Burkhart made sure that everyone understood the material which made the classroom environment safe to open questions. I started going in for tutoring soon after. We sat down together and worked problem after problem, she would write on the white board to make me feel more comfortable as I was used to a classroom setting and before I knew it I was coming in regularly. I would sometimes come alone or with classmates that were too shy to come in by themselves. The main reason why I kept coming in was because not only did I see progress in my grades, but I was also forming a friendship with my teacher. Soon quizzes, exams and projects came easy to me. I was happy that I had passed the class with an A but, realizing that she wasn’t going to be my teacher for my senior year made me sad. I knew that she was the best math teacher in school. As anticipated, I started having trouble with math my last year of high school. Since we had created such a beautiful friendship I wanted to spend as much time as possible with her my last year. I wanted to be a TA in her class and help students the way she helped me. I also started tutoring again with Ms. Burkhart throughout the year and because of her help I was able to pass my class with an A again for both semesters and help other students do the same. I am now a sophomore in college and have always had contact with Ms. Burkhart because of the great energy she gives off and encouragement of helping others. I want students to know that they can trust and feel safe with Ms. Burkhart because she sincerely wants students to understand math and she also understands student’s point of view. She is now my tutor again and I wouldn’t want anyone else. She is simply an amazing person.

I had struggled with math for my entire life before having them as a teacher. They are extremely patient and knowledgeable, they can explain things in multiple ways to help your understanding. Never judgemental or intimidating they will make you confident in your skills as a learner.

What I loved about working with this service is that they were amazing at making sure I understood what I was doing before we moved on to a bigger problem. They were able to simplify things so that I wasnt confused and they were patient and easy to talk to. Amazing knowledge in math and an even better tutor.

    Frequently asked questions

I want to provide the most positive and productive tutoring for you. Even though you are coming to get help in math and may feel a bit hopeless or confused, I actually hope to inspire and engender a love of math.

    My expectations

    ·      Bring work. If you have a problem written down with no work, or worse yet, blank paper, we are not going to be productive.

    ·      Use time effectively. Try all problems on your own before you attend a session with me. Don’t erase or cross out anything you try. This will help me understand where you have misunderstandings.

    ·      Do SOME homework ahead of time. If you are having trouble with a concept, work on only 1 or 2 problems. If you do all of them wrong, then you just practiced making mistakes.

    ·      Tests. I will prepare you as best I can for test-taking, but I cannot help you with the test problems themselves. You must always show me the source/assignment of your work. After the test, I will help you with your misconceptions.

    ·      Syllabus/schedule of work. As much as is possible, let me know timelines, access to your teachers’ website if applicable, and any other information that will help me help you.
