What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I spend time getting to know the student, and finding the areas that he or she is struggling with. Knowing what support is needed helps a lot.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's in Math from UCLA, and close to 30 years experience tutoring and teaching.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started in tutoring when some of my classmates needed help back in high school. I got started in teaching when a small school needed a math teacher and called me offering me the job.
What types of students have you worked with?
All different types. I have worked with students in AP classes and students who were struggling with earlier classes. I have also worked with a number of autistic students
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who is patient and who can break down concepts in a way to make them understandable. You want someone who will be easy and pleasant to work with, so you don't have an unpleasant experience.
