As an adult entering the college arena I was way over my head in the math department. Krystina helped to break down the seemingly complex concepts and equations with a smile. Prior to her tutoring I was overwhelmed and often wanted to crawl back under the covers to pray for a miracle download of understanding. Krystina provided the acumen I needed in a fun environment. Her youthful appearance made me doubtful at first but with 100% certainty her methods work! She shows up with an unparalleled enthusiasm for learning. The passion for progress is infectious. To put it into perspective, I had a 68 on my first exam without her help. I scored a 97 out of 100 on the final after her tutoring sessions. I still sit here in awe. Previously, I would have never aspired to do anything but squeak by and pray for a passing grade. Krystina was catalyst for an almost perfect score on a business math course at Northridge CSUN. Sitting in a class with 120 students the material was briefly visited but it was her tutoring that enabled me to achieve the comprehension to be confident and excel.

Krystyna Ahlers has been one of the most important and influential woman present in my lifetime. Not only has she guided me in my education, but she has also inspired me to blossom into the studious, determined, joyful young girl I am today. After months of struggling with my studies and learning patterns, as well as the large classroom setting I found myself drowning in, my parents decided to set me up with a tutor, and I was beyond excited. From the moment I saw Krystyna, I knew, from her bright smile and warm presence, that I would finally begin to succeed in both my school life and personal life. She has helped me with math, chemistry, biology, English, and history, as well as ACT/SAT prep. Since I began to work with her, I have found myself excelling in each course and progressing in my determination for knowledge. She has helped me learn organization skills, note taking skills, and tactics for improving my self-confidence. Not only is she my tutor, but she is a friend, I confide in her. She is exceptionally generous, warmhearted, affectionate, devoted, and reputable. Krystyna has taught me to crave knowledge and be excited to learn, rather than fear learning, as I previously had. Her presence in my life has been one of the most impactful factors on my life and I could not be more thankful for the amazing woman I am able to call my tutor, my friend, and in some cases, my sister.

Krystyna has been a wonderful tutor for our (now) sixteen year old daughter for the past two years. The impact has been tremendous. When Krystyna first came to our house, our daughter was in 9th grade and just beginning high school. She was struggling to believe that she could do high school work, and felt that her middle school had not prepared her to learn on the high school level. She felt like she didnt know how to take notes, didnt know what to focus on when reading textbooks, and was frustrated and lacked confidence. After working with Krystyna we have seen a complete transformation in our daughter that has gone beyond her school work. She is doing significantly better as a student and this is translating into her personal life was well. We attribute much of this change to the hours spent with Krystyna. This one-on-one, distraction-free environment, in which our daughter is able to ask as many questions as needed has made all the difference. Today our daughter is getting ready for the SAT/ACT which she will prepare for with Krystynas help. Our daughter is excited about applying for colleges and her future. Thank you Krystyna for making such a huge difference in our daughters life.

    Frequently asked questions

I've been doing this a long time.  I'll gather any and all helpful information about the student.  I then discuss tutoring goals with both the parents and the student.  Sometimes they have different goals!  Then we'll come up with a tailored plan dependent on the students goals, challenges, and personality.  Every one is different!

I graduated from the University of Miami with a 3.9 GPA, completing the pre-med track, majoring in Biology and Theatre Arts, and minoring in Chemistry and Psychology. I've been tutoring for a decade. I love learning and have a passion for teaching and inspiring others. I am a self-proclaimed nerd. I grew up reading textbooks for fun and began competing in and winning math competitions at age 10. I am continually taking classes and reading books to expand upon my knowledge and skill sets. My hobbies include reading, songwriting, singing, violin, piano, and dance.

I was inspired to create Avery Prep to serve our community.  Children are the future.  My goal is to educate, inspire, and empower.

Yes. Lessons cost between $100-150, depending on subject, duration, location, and number of lessons.

I like to work my family's needs.  You don't have to spend thousands to reach your target score.  I am able to set up systems that work within a family's budget, while still delivering the results needed.  I'm happy to offer a free consultation to discuss options.

I have five siblings.  It started there, with playing teacher-- it was my favorite game!  Then in middle school I enrolled in a peer tutoring program and LOVED it.  I've never stopped.

I take great joy in helping students.  It's a gift of mine.

All types!  Perfect students wanting perfect SAT/ACT scores. Failing students.  Ridiculously motivated students AND ridiculously UNmotivated students.

I am a people person.  I am here to serve you.  I adapt my teaching plans and styles to what will best serve each individual.  No two students are alike!

I recently helped a young girl improve her ACT score by fourteen points.  That's basically unheard of!  And more important than the increase in score, is the increase in her self-esteem, her confidence, and her hope for her future.

Make sure they are qualified.  Be wary of companies that charge you a lot of money, and then pay relatively new tutors only $30-50 an hour.  Private tutors might be more experienced and better qualified.

Get details on their experience.  How many students in the subject? How fresh are they on the content?  Get a sense of their integrity and make sure you are a good match.

Lastly:  Communicate!  Let tutors know how to best serve you.  Speak up with concerns, ideas, likes, and dislikes.

It's a dialogue!  Pick up the phone or shoot an email out and get the conversation going.  An experienced tutor will guide.
