Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I provide an assessment for reading and writing skills during my first session with students. After reviewing their performance I like to have a meeting with parents and students to go over the areas that can be improved. I then outline a strategy to help students reach their academic goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended UCLA and received a bachelor's degree in Sociology. I have worked as a communications coach as well as a private tutor for 7 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Sessions are typically 1 hour long, at $30 an hour.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught students between the ages of 10-18.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Reading and writing skills do not come natuarlly to all students. Often, students wish there was a formula to apply to effectively read and comprehend material then successfully communicate their understanding in their essays. I help students accomplish this with systems to help them quickly identify what kind of essay is being asked of them, and how to support their thesis in a efficient and organized manner.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I advise that if a student is at all struggling or confused about their school work, they should reach out to their instructor. The faster questions can be answered, the less a student falls behind in class.
