Elementary Tutor
About
Hello, I am a 18-year-old honor student currently attending first year of college. I have taken all AP and honor classes passing all with good grades all year round. I have personally completely around 400 hours of community service and helped little kids with coaching for swim and basketball. So I have worked with kids before and have done tutoring for even older students. The students I feel I can have the most impact on to raise their grades are students within the ages of 5-10.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually I would take some time to get to know the student and make sure they feel comfortable to talk to me and not feel ashamed if they do not understand something. With extra worksheets on a certain topic and with some youtube links that I will personally double check to see if it will be useful and not to mention the time i will be putting to personally teach from my own knowledge.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes I do, mainly because it will all depend on how much the student needs help with a certain topic on a certain day. Or if they need extra help for the next day for a big test. Hourly I would say the usual ranging from $20-$25.
How did you get started teaching?
I personally am not a teacher but I have done many community service hours at a public tutoring center which prepared me for such a job as this one.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have done coaching with kids from ages 5-8 with basketball and swim. I have also helped in a tutoring center for about 2 years and also have seen different techniques that other tutors have used that had great impacts.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently I have done a play in a theater and this is the recent event I am highly proud mainly because it really did open doors for me going into university. I have learned how to react with people better and how to control certain situations and with all the communication skills I have picked up it really does help with this job because honestly in order to get a student to truly want to listen to you and get the material there has to be a connection so the student doesn't loose focus so quickly.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Honestly as long as the student understands the material. It all depends on the student, because anyone can teach biology or math or any subject with acouple of classes but not all the students will like a certain teacher compared to others.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The one question I personally think through as a high school student myself is "Could I get ahead of the class, if possible how?". And I will encourage the students I tutor to want to be more curious about the next lesson in class.
