Math is an easy subject. Normally, each question asks for only one answer by given condition(s). If we understand what the question asks for, we know the method to use, and we get the answer by calculation. My job is to improve your skill of understanding what the question asks for and what method to use. With practice and operating conditioning, you will find it clearer and faster to know how to handle each type of problems.
Math is an applicable and art-like subject. When we are ahead of schedule, I tell my students funny math stories such as Number Party, Fractal Bee, etc. I also do math games if the student really likes math. I believe that nothing is stronger than game which stimulates one's interest in learning.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Introducing each other, understand student's strength and weakness in math. Briefly talk about how math is related to the student's life.
Show the student an example of how I quickly do the a math problem. Gerenally introduce the method I used what the student will be doing in the following lessons to rapidly solve math problem like I just presented.
Start the first lecture. Encourage the student to solve an easy problem using the method to build his or her confidence on himself or herself and on the method.
End the lecture with homework and preview of the second lecture.
