About
I am passionate about paying it forward. I specialize in preparing students with practical skills that are applicable in many disciplines such as writing, presentations, public speaking. I also tutor basic math and political science. I have previously worked with students in elementary, middle and high school. I started tutoring in high school for AP Biology. After college, I focused my extra time on basic math and science. I am excellent at helping students get started with an assignment and ensure they are going in the right direction. A lot of my work includes helping students prepare for exams, review difficult concepts and check over homework assignments. I do not over-promise by any means-- learning anything takes time. But my goal is to ultimately make the student feel more confident in their ability to solve problems and to no be scared when a hard question is presented.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually like to spend a few minutes asking the student what exactly they struggle with. Oftentimes, students never articulate in words what they're struggling with. They assume that the material is hard or, worse, that they're just not smart enough. When you make them identify certain aspects, it becomes a problem that has a solution.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have tutored students since I was in high school myself. For years, I did it for free because I just had time and excitement for it. I also ran a day-care where I spent most of the day teaching young kids how to present on topics. It was the most rewarding experience. Over the years, I realized I enjoyed being on the learning journey with someone. A lot of my professional life requires writing and presenting. I spend a lot of time writing for fun and have informally coached many people in college, fellowship, scholarship essays. I, myself, have been able to land amazing opportunities because of my writing- Fellowship in Public Policy at Princeton University, UC Berkeley Law school, internship at the White House and then worked fulltime at the White House, Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Award at Georgia Tech. All of these acheivements required submitting essays on various topics.

I usually charge $50 an hour. This is something that is fixed because of the time I spend outside of tutoring sessions preparing and tailoring a plan for each student I work with.
