About

Hello! My name is Kathy and I'm a current English and American Literature graduate student at New York University (NYU). I am located in Pasadena, CA.

I am operating as an in-person/remote private English tutor (Reading and Writing) for all grade levels. Currently, I am in the process of applying for Ph.D programs for the Fall 2022 term.

As a student and writer myself, I understand how frustrating it can be when you cannot express your thoughts in writing as clearly as you intended. I want to make the acts of writing and reading a fun and creative process with room for growth in academic, interpersonal, and professional areas. Seeing those I've helped improve their grades, achieve their goals, and have fun makes tutoring worthwhile.

    Frequently asked questions

My typical process for working with a new student includes:

    1) Establishing reliable and transparent communication / building rapport with the student and if applicable, their parents/guardians.

    2) Devising a personalized plan of action, which includes evaluating their current reading and writing levels, asking them to explain what their desired results may look like, indicating the presence of any upcoming deadlines, and acommodating their specific learning style.

    3) Setting up a list of attainable and flexible goals. These goals may be short-term or long-term depending on the student's current level and desired results.

    Pricing policy:

I charge a minimum of $50/hour for in-person tutoring and a minimum of $40/hour for online tutoring. My prices adjust according to:

    1) The student's grade level
    2) The difficulty and bulk of coursework
    3) Cost of travel
    4) Possible deadlines/timelines
    5) Amount of sessions

    Payment policy:

Payment is to be made up front either in full or as a partial deposit, which will be paid in full at the end of the session. Acceptable forms of payment include Venmo, Zelle, and Paypal to ensure safe transactions on both sides.

    Lateness, Cancellation, and Refund policy:

Lateness does not incur a fee, but it does make it difficult to get full use of your time as you will only be tutored for the remainder of your session.

If you are more than 15 minutes late to a session and you haven't contacted me about it, I will assume that you are not showing up. You will be considered a no-show and will be responsible for full payment of the missed session.

If you need to re-schedule or cancel a session, please inform me at least 24 hours prior to our scheduled time slot. You can either email, call, or text me, whichever is more convenient for you. If you fail to do so, you will be responsible for full payment of the session.

Cancellations as a result of inclement weather/events (snow, sleet, hail, tornado, hurricane, severe thunderstorms, wildfires) and emergencies are subject to exceptions.

Payment can either be refunded or the session can be re-scheduled for a more appropriate time.

From toddlers to college students, I have worked with students from all academic levels.

Don't settle for just any teacher/tutor.

Find one who understands and accomodates your learning style, listens to your concerns and fears, and strives to help you develop the skills and confidence necessary to own your reading and writing skills.

    Some questions include:

    1) What do I already know and not know about the subject and/or assignment(s)?

    2) What areas do I need the most help with and what areas do I need the least help with?

    3) When giving an assignment, how do I begin working on it?

    4) Are there any details about my learning environment, whether at school or at home, that may help the teacher/tutor in creating a plan of action for me?
