About

Currently, I work as an elementary teacher for a public school district here in the Inland Empire. Although I live in the Inland Empire to tutor up to 4 weekdays, I do commute to tutor students all over the northern LA county areas, as far as the San Fernando Valley during the weekends. During this year, this will be my 11th year of teaching for elementary school students, up to this school year 2019-2020.

Other experiences in my recent past include teaching full-time as a kindergarten teacher for a public school in Whittier, teaching in an after-school setting to 1st and 2nd grade students in Arcadia, teaching in RTi (Response to Intervention) program combination multi-grade level intervention classrooms ranging from kindergarten through 5th grade in the same classroom, teaching math & English-language arts intervention for remediation and grade level catch up skills, and last, providing elementary speech remediation through oral language and phonics, with rote oral exercises in Pasadena. Although my work locations are far from each of my students, I have & still continue to commute for tutoring during weekends throughout the San Gabriel Valley & San Fernando Valley areas, as well as some parts of the greater Los Angeles areas to offer tutoring. Meanwhile, I also simultaneously work as a full-time elementary school district teacher each weekday from Monday-Friday.

I teach multiple subjects, working in a classroom-type setting. In my position, I offer K-5th grade academic instruction of the CA standards, remediation to intervention, ELD (English-language development) instruction to K-5th grade level skills and elementary speech-language instruction. I try to target academic weaknesses, teach required & advanced skills necessary in today's schools, improve abilities through tutoring, maintain required grade level and CA school standards skills, as well as provide advancement in various academic skills that a student can excel higher in past their grade level.

I have taught all elementary school subjects providing for individual and group academic intervention, and daily enrichment. I have also helped at-risk and struggling students improve in their school's state assessments. In addition, I have also had experienced professional training in techniques & strategies using a Reading Mastery Program to improve and help students excel in reading from Grades 1st-5th grade.

I started out as a young college student majoring in Psychology, then rose to gain experience with children at a local summer camp. Then, I became a volunteer working as an academic mentor while still in college, for at-risk foster students in the inner city communities of the San Fernando Valley. Next, I began my role as school facilitator working as a teacher's assistant/paraprofessional for a few years at two local public schools in Los Angeles, while simultaneously attending & juggling University courses daily & nightly to earn my degree in education with a CA professional credential license. For a total of 10 years now, my teaching history has started out from just a regular basic academic mentor, to teacher's assistant, to full-time classroom teacher, to professional educator multi-tasking employment in other advanced educational & professional positions. I coach, support, mentor, and most importantly, advise in teaching and facilitating quality academic instruction to all types of diverse learners.

I have also been fully trained in teaching differentiated instructional methods, using explicit direct instruction (EDI) techniques used today in many schools, and trained to teach systematic writing strategies for struggling writers.

I am fully credentialed with my Masters Degree in Education and with my CA professional clear credential in multiple subjects. Also, I have a strong background in literacy & reading development for grades kindergarten through 5th grade. In addition, I also carry areas of strength in English Language Development and Science for grades K-5th grade.

I can also offer and provide advanced elementary ESL instruction for young students in 2nd-7th grade (elementary grades), focusing on the following areas: advanced English writing, reading and vocabulary, oral language and speech, grammar and phonics. My instruction composes of both oral conversation and written instruction. I am quite flexible to tailor and adapt curriculum based on a student's strengths and weaknesses.

Through all of my varied teaching experiences in my life, it is my duty to target any student's needs, seek and work on improvement and/or intervention, and teach the student to learn basic, required, and advanced skills necessary for each grade level to excel in the student's school curriculum.

I appreciate the willingness and growth developed from students as they are able to understand the importance of doing well in their education. Collaborating with students and parents is always important, as well, as tutoring requires a team effort in helping the child succeed to his/her potential.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to have a first time consultation meeting for a trial to see if tutoring is the best option for a child's intervention or learning growth. I also collaborate with the child's parent/guardian to get a full background on the child and his/her latest educational experiences and/or his/her current levels in school to familiarize myself on how best to provide resources to better support the child on needed resources.

I initially began as a PreK Summer Camp teacher, while still in my first year of college.
Next, I worked as an LAUSD classroom assistant for  3 years in 2 different schools, while studying full time in college University courses.
Then, I became a Substitute Teacher for LAUSD till I got hired full time as a district teacher.

Afterwards, once hired, I needed to move to Bakersfield since it was my first school district hired. From Bakersfield, I have moved back to LA, worked in both public and private schools.

Then finally today, I am now in the Inland Empire, and I am still teaching in my 11th year still in a school district, as a classroom teacher full time.

I have taught all grades from TK-6th grade in all Elementary subjects.

I am proud to have hosted my district's Primary Grade Kindergarten-1st grade Literacy Workshop event for the community.

I think it's a great opportunity to learn a comprehensive range of skills from a variety of elementary subjects, as tutoring advances & prepares students to be on top of their academics always.

Is tutoring one-on-one a commitment I can stick to and do well in, from my needs as a student?
