About
Individualizaiton is a key factor towards student success. My experience as a teacher and tutor of various ages and learning abilities has taught me that nurturing strengths in addition to supplementary support in challenge areas, positively affects student independence, confidence, and agency. For students to develop self efficacy, I focus on developing strategies and tools that are transferrable across subjects and disciplines. As an educator with a focus on English and literature, I utilize literary pedagogy to inform to my students' pursuit towards identifying areas of interest and developing tools and strategies specific to their scope. Armed with the knowledge of their own learning processes and preferred strategies, students will be able to successfully adapt and manage issues with motivation, frustration, difficulty, and confusion. I currently hold teaching certificates in Post Secondary Reading and Composition from SFSU.
I've been working in academia and enrichment for several years, and without a doubt the most rewarding aspect is helping a student build their confidence and gain independence. As an educator, I feel strongly that each student deserves an opportunity to bring their own knowledge and experiences to their learning experience. I most enjoy tapping into a student's passion and interest which makes the learning process much more rich and engaging.

Learning is a collaborative process so it is very important that goals and focus are mutually agreed upon, transparent, and tracked for accountability. Once we are clear on those goals and focal points, I like to begin taking inventory of strengths and challenge areas through metacognitive exercises and activities designed to make visible the thinking patterns and processes. From here, we concentrate on building strategies and tools that transferable and effective based on the student's specific needs and tendencies.
