Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first step is always to figure out how to relieve some stress about the topic. Usually this means figuring out what the student CAN do and then building up from there. Having a good relationship with my students is very important to the work we do together. They have to be able to trust me in order to make mistakes and learn from them without feeling overwhelmed.
The work I do with a student depends on where they are at in their understanding. It could be building background knowledge (review), gaining confidence with what they already know and building from there (practice), or finding a different way to look at a concept that is challenging (reteaching). I can help at any level! I'm very good with adapting and being flexible with what my students need.
