About
Hi, I'm Michael, and I've spent a lot of time in school, learning and studying many topics, but primarily focusing on the inner workings and dynamics of the Earth. I completed my PhD in earth and planetary sciences at Washington University in St Louis (WashU) in 2022, and resumed tutoring after graduation. Before attending WashU, I received my bachelors and masters degrees in geophysics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). I spent many of my years in college and graduate school solving problems and conducting research. One big thing that I've taken from this experience that I can apply to my tutoring is that it is important to be flexible. I am ready, willing, and able to adjust my methods and approaches to find the most effective way to help you learn.
I have several years of experience tutoring high school and college students in a wide range of math and science courses, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, physics, and geology. In my time as a tutor, I have employed multiple different techniques to help students get the most out of our sessions together. With these subjects, I have found that the "I do, we do, you do" approach paired with student summaries of the material often is the most effective. However, I am always learning and expanding my tutoring skillset, and I believe that together we can find the approach that works best for you.
I am currently based in Tempe, Arizona and looking to help students gain more confidence in and understanding of their math and science classes. I look forward to working with you!
