I enjoy helping students reach new levels of competency that they didn't think they could. It's exciting to see the information click and for students to move from a place where they lack confidence in themselves to a place where they feel confident and successful.

Under the instruction of Mrs. Larsen for AP Lang, I experienced lots of growth as a writer and in analysis of various types of works. She always gave great specific feedback that helped me know where and how to improve. I certainly attribute my high reading/writing SAT and ACT scores to her teaching.

Frequently asked questions

I work with each individual student to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and goals.  My philosophy very much aligns with the adage, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I can certainly help correct and refine papers for quick edits, but I prefer to help students recognize the areas where they are being successful and where they are struggling and then teach them how to improve for the future.

I have a Masters Degree in Secondary Education, English and five years of teaching experience as an English teacher. I have taught ESL, American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, AP English Language and Composition, ACT Prep, and HSPT Prep. I have tutored ESL students, students with accomodation plans and IEP students, AP English Language students, and students working on college essays.

Pricing depends on the assignment length, hours of assistance required, and difficulty level of the subject matter.

ESL, low-income minority, inner city, middle/upper class, junior high, high school, exceptional learners, specific learning disabilities, gifted learners, ADD/ADHD, AP students.

Is this a question I can answer for myself? What steps have I taken to address this challenge on my own and/or with help from a parent, classmate, or the internet? What do I really want from my teacher (e.g. help, answers, extension, someone to listen, advice, etc.) and am I prepared to communicate my needs effectively? What tone am I going to use when I talk to my teacher, and how might my tone affect their willingness to help me?
