Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Parents are looking for peace-of-mind and trust when it comes to online tutoring.
In order to be as transparent as possible, I offer a free phone consultation for all new families as well as a free lesson for you to see if I am the right fit in working with your child.
Then, I provide a free academic assessment to gauge your child's learning goals. Assessments allow us both to see your child's exact level, creating specific learning goals to maxium their learning potential.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a lifelong learner. I do what I do as a professional tutor, because I believe that all children have the ability to succeed in school regardless of their background. My two degrees are a Bachelor of Science in Family and Human Services as well as Master's of Education K-8. This extensive education and professional experience as a classroom teacher allows me to teach more efficiently than other tutors. You can be confident in hiring me, because I have proven results as an educator.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I create learning transformations for school-aged children to boost their confidence and demonstrate their full academic potential, one lesson at a time.
My fees include: free assessments, lesson planning, parent conferences, progress reports, materials (sent to you via email ahead of time) + fun, multi-sensory lessons taught by a highly-qualified teacher.
My comprehensive tutoring packages start at $450 per month for children pre-K - 8th grade.
My rates include initial and ongoing assessments, expert consultations, personalized learning plans, flexible scheduling, materials, and all taxes and fees. How did you get started teaching?
I earned a full scholarship to college, so I was able to pursue my passion and purpose: impacting others by helping them feel successful and confident. As an elementary schooler, I struggled with reading and it wreaked havoc on my self confidence. Luckly, an amazing teacher transformed my path. With the current state of education, students today rarely receive individualized support. I do what I do so parents have peace-of-mind that their children are supported in their learning.
I got started in teaching as a special education assistant. Wanting to make a bigger impact, I taught 4th grade as a Teach For America Corps Member. Before leaving the classroom to pursue full-time professional tutoring, I helped open one of the highest preforming elementary schools in my state as a learning expert and 1st and 2nd grade mentor teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with school-aged children K-8. Due to my skill set and extensive professional background, I am qualified to teach struggling students and also provide enrichment to those who are bored in school and need more challenging work.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One student came to be barely able to read CVC words (e.g. cat, dog, mom). In the 2nd grade, she already experienced bullying at school and children made fun of her for not being able to read. During the first lesson, she was shy and embarrassed that she couldn’t read. With consistent tutoring, 1 hour per week, she is now reading full sentences and books independently. Remarkable change happens when students feel supported.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I recommend that you hop on the phone with a tutor who you are interested in working with. Parents are able to ask questions and really get a feel for if a tutor is the right fit for their child and also their lifestyle. Look to hire a teacher who can be a mentor for your child and be a positive role model they can trust.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you want for your child's future. Do you want them to get into their middle or high school of choice? Do you want your child to feel confident and independent? Do you want your child to learn foundational skills? How would hiring an effective tutor positively impact your direct relationship with your child? How would you feel if your child had options in the future? If your child continued to struggle in the same academic areas how would it impact their self esteem?
