About
I am a seasoned teacher of over 40 years. I have worked with every age from first grades to 8th graders. My certification is in Elementary Education, but I received my reading certification 2010 and I also have a GED certification as well as many credits in Special Education. I have helped many students succeed through my Orton Gillingham Training in 1995. This is a structured phonics program that develops slowly but helps non readers to read within their own space and time. I have had a 99% succeed rate with this program. Please research this yourself to discover this awesome program to help non readers. If your child is a stsruggling reader this program will help but I have many strategies and materials that I use to help each and everyone of my students. Many of my children stay with my program for 3 to 4 years as the parents are pretty happy with the results. If you would like references do not hesistate to contact me via text. I respond quickly.
After being a teacher for 40 plus years I enjoy all aspects of working with children to see them succeed and grow into wonderful adults. I am passionate aobut my work and I will be honest with the parents to a fault if I can or cannot help and I make many suggestions that have truly helped parents with their child's education. I love and respect all children. They are our next adults!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually will do my own testing with the student. I have been working with children for 40 years and tutoring the same. I am a reading specialist. I will have parents come to my home or if they cannot I will go to their home for the testing. The results will show pretty clearly what the child is in need of and then I sit down with the parent and talk about my findings.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been trained in the Orton Gillingham Structured Reading Program. This is a specialized reading program that helps children with Dyslexia and many Reading Difficulties learn to read more fluently and with ease and confidence. I have been teaching this program for almost 30 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Basically my price is 40 per session.
How did you get started teaching?
Wow I have been teaching for over 40 years. Love children and they keep me young for sure. I really enjoy seeing the light bulb go on when they start to read and comprehend as we work on our lessons. Teaching has been a big part of my life for so long I would never trade this profession. Children are our future.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages from 5 years old to 13 years of age. I have worked with very bright children to very low academically challenged children to hyper active ADD children. I have taught grades 2nd to 8th grade in most subjects.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
There are so many recent events of working with children struggling with reading. I have worked with a young ladly that was on a .6 grade level in February 2019 and after many weeks of tutoring twice a week when I tested her in August her reading and spelling scores were on a 3rd grade level! That to me is pretty awesome. She raised her reading word attack over two years in six months.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Just be sure this teacher knows the strength and weaknesses of the child they are going to work with and that they actually have the expertise you are looking for please.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
These students shoudl have parents interested in finding the right tutor for thier child. Students should not be asking the questions unless they are high school but I would think that the children in mot need of help are young children.
