About
My name is Nathan Leonard. There are a lot of math tutors out there. However, I'm not simply a math tutor.
I am a MATHEMATICIAN!
I have a Masters of Science in Mathematics from Northern Arizona University. An area I specialized in was analysis. Analysis focuses proving that the theorems in math are true. As such, I have an extremely high understanding of not just how to do math, but why it works; thus, enhanving my ability to explain math.
Starting at age 21 I taught at NAU for 3 years during and after earning my masters.
After that I have an additional decade of teaching math at the community college and university levels. At the Maricipa Community Colleges, I've taught almost avery math class they offer.
Do you know you need to take a math class in future, and are worried about being able to pass it? If so you can hire me to teach you the course before you take it. Instead of strggling through you will breeze through it already knowing everything before day 1!
I love math! Strange as it may seem to many people out there, doing math and teaching math brings me joy. In fact, one of the environments in which I can feel most at peace or at ease are in a classroom teaching or working with a tutoring client?
It truly gives my life meaning when:
A tutoring client told me she got het first A ever after working with me.
A student in finite math tells me that she caught a car company trying to slip extra charges into the cost of her car because I taught her how to compute the monthly payment on a loan.
I get an email from a former student telling me that thanks to the linear algebra class he took from me in community college he is still ahead of the curve in grad school.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start by asking if you have questions on what your class is covering. If yes, that directs our session. If not, I'll create various problems from your current topic to try and identify the problem areas.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a M.S. in Mathematics from Northern Arizona University.
I have 13 years experience teaching math at the community college and university levels.
At the Maricopa Community Colleges, I just earned my certificate for 20 semesters teaching for them. In that time, I've almost every math class offered in the Maricopa district.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is $30 per hour.
I do prorate, but only after the first hour.
If I neef to travel a great distance, like to Gilbert or Avondale, there is a $5 distance fee.
How did you get started teaching?
I was an umoficial TA in my highschool precalculus clsdd.
Formally, I started teaching for NAU at age 21. Like most colleges, NAU offers positions as graduate teacing assistants or GTAs to grad students 8ncluding me. However, in the math department a GTA didn't assist a professor in the professor's class. GTAs taught classed of our own.
What types of students have you worked with?
As a college teacher, I tipically teach adults. However, I have tutored kids.
The only restriction is: students I work with must be at the algebra level or higher. As a college teacher, everyone know arithmetic before I see them. As such the knowledge of how to help someone who don't get it.
