Thomas Tutoring: Courses in Critical Thinking, founds its teaching methods upon inspiration from Maria Montessori, who in 1907, built a school centered around giving impoverished children access to holistic, free education. The Montessori method isn't like traditional classrooms where a professor may stand in front of a chalkboard, give a speech, and then assign homework; consequently, leaving their students with little to no one-on-one guidance. The Montessori method focuses on giving students access to a holistic, innovative, individualistic, and self-directed approach to learning fueled by curiosity, critical thinking, and an exchange of ideas between both student and teacher, with the teacher acting as a guide to help the student discover how to grow into themselves and eventually know how to flourish, learning on their own. Growing up with a Montessori styled education gave me the freedom and creativity to explore all subjects in ways that felt freeing and fueled my passion for learning. I am a student too, I attend Arizona State University, and I am in the process of completing my final year to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I graduated high school with a 4.7 GPA and a full scholarship to ASU. I have obtained a 4.0 GPA during my time in college, and I have made the dean's list every semester. I love to learn and that's why I am successful with my academic pursuits. I am not just a student in a literal sense; I approach the world as a student and have never lost the independent drive to know more. I have been tutoring for six years and have worked with kids of all ages, kindergarten to college. I have worked with students in group homes, tiny apartments, and gated communities. I have taught subjects from algebra, precalculus, English literature, and AP history; to SAT/GED test preparation, mindful study skills, and even executive functioning and focus strategies for students with ADHD or chronic mental illness. My promise as a tutor is to meet you wherever you are as a student and transform you into a powerful, independent, creative critical thinker.
