About

I truly enjoy helping kids learn math. I've helped all ages from 4th grade to college. I not only assist with individual problems, but I also help students with math anxiety, study techniques and test prep.

I enjoy helping students overcome hurdles, learn to learn and gain positive momentum as a student.

Eric is great, easy to work with. Not intimidating or judgmental. Hes patient and asks about obstacles and preconceptions surrounding math. I struggle with college Algebra, have been unsuccessful in class many times. Ive been working with Eric all semester and am passing with my highest-ever grade. I cant believe it, but Im on track to successfully pass this semester (after two unsuccessful attempts)!!

    Frequently asked questions

I first like to ask the student how they feel about what they are studying and their likes and dislikes about the subject. From there, I can start assessing their skills and needs and helping them accomplish their goals.

I have a degree in Manufacturing Technology and have primarily worked in the manufacturing industries throughout my career.  When my daughter started math in school and she and her friends started asking for help, I was hooked.  Since then, I have tutored at a college learning center and am currently teaching and tutoring for a charter school, grades 5-8 (all math). I also enjoy teaching STEM courses!!

My standard rate for math instruction is $40/hr and can vary depending on travel, online, etc.

Math is integral to machining, technology and manufacturing (my career area). I have always applied math at work and when my daughter and her friends started asking for help, I truly enjoyed it.  From then on, I've always been helping others in various math topics and in various capacities.

I have primarily worked with students having difficulty with Algebra and foundational math concepts.  Many of my students have needed help with math anxiety, organizational skills, study skills, test prep and mathematical relations and reasoning.  I have also worked with students on geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and statistics.

I recently worked with a student having trouble with Pairs of Angles. The student was having a difficult time seeing all the angles and symbols staring back at them from the page and therefore had difficulty focusing and identifying a starting point.  After several trials of problem deconstruction and practice applying angle rules, the student had such an exciting "aha" moment that they became an infectious proponent of angle solving!!

I would let the student know that there are no bad questions to ask about the subject and that one-on-one tutoring is a great place to feel comfortable asking questions that otherwise might seem uncomfortable in the classroom setting, i.e. "Why"?. Everyone approaches and processes math differently - be honest and comfortable with your needs so your tutor can understand and tailor an approach for YOU.

What are their goals? How can I help them achieve these goals?  Have you thought about how much work it may require?
