Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before working with a student, I conduct an initial consultation that allows me to get to know the student and their academic needs. During the consultation, I determine the student’s learning style and level and learn of their strengths and weaknesses, which helps me create personalized lesson content to help the student set and reach their academic goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been teaching and tutoring online for 7 years. As a TESOL certified English teacher, my online teaching experience started with teaching English as a second language to international students. Then, it expanded to helping students improve their reading and writing skills here in the U.S. as an online ELA tutor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing for tutoring services depends on how many sessions a student needs in a given month. The number of sessions is determined once the initial consultation is completed, with sessions starting at $25 an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching online in 2013 as an ESL teacher to Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese students. I enjoyed meeting new students and experiencing parts of their culture. During my early time as an ESL teacher, I was able to gain teaching experience, implement effective teaching methods, and found ways to personalize lesson material to each student I was teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students as young as 4 years old and students well into adulthood.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's important to work with a tutor who is able to meet your educational needs and who understands your learning style. An experienced and well-intentioned educator will take an interest in you, ask you about your educational goals, and will work with you to create a plan that will help you reach those goals.
