About

Lighting Up Literature offers a one on one, interactive course that will help our students achieve their educational goals. I work with all ages and levels of education, taking the time to comprehend my student's learning styles and individual needs, and develop a program specifically to fit those needs. Whether it is learning the rules of phonics and grammar, or editing a paper for college courses, I will do my utmost to help my students reach proficiency and comfortability with their subjects, papers, or general knowledge.

I have tutored several college level students, helping them perfect their papers and assignments to achieve an A in their classes.

I am the editor of three separate blogs, trusted by their authors to catch their errors and inconsistencies to provide a polished, professional finished product.

I am a satellite contractor for Stressless Edits, a company whose edited works have achieved number one on Amazon.com's best-seller list.

I was a published poet at the age of 18, featured in three anthologies and two stand alone books.

I have always had a love for the English language, and imparting that same love to others has always been a joy for me. It doesn't matter if we're discussing a Shakespearean tragedy or simply going over the rules of phonics and grammar, I love imparting the beauty of the language I have fallen in love with.

Being able to watch someone learn, to grasp the nature either of the Oxford comma, or one of the many themes of Hamlet, has been a consistent and constant joy in my life. I am passionate about language and writing, and I want to use that passion to aid others in learning what is a very difficult subject.

Eva helped me hash out the plot and characters for my novel, and she did a great job. She glimpsed my vision and helped me hone it to a fine point. It was fabulous just to have someone to bounce ideas off of—especially someone who has done as much reading and writing and critiquing as this woman. I would highly recommend her as a creative writing or English tutor!

    Frequently asked questions

My process for working with a new student is to first understand them. I want to know their learning style, what it is about the subject that they like and dislike, and why they like/dislike those things. From there, I proceed with attempting to incorporate what is disliked about the subject into what is liked about it, and begin instruction from there. A working relationship with the student is what is most important in order to foster a learning environment.

I was tutored in English, Grammar, Spelling, Vocabulary, and Phonics in a structured one-on-one environment by an MBA, suma cum laude instructor.

I received straight A's in all collegiate courses regarding Literature, English, and Creative Writing.

I have trained in my knowledge of writing by writing at least one-thousand words a day on creative projects. I continue to further my education by reading books written by the experts, and also studying the analyzation of literature by reading variegated works and genres.

If traveling to student, a $5 to $15 (dependent on distance) travel allowance will be added to the session price.

    30 minute session - $15.00

    45 minute session - $22.50

    60 minute session - $30.00

    90 minute session - $45.00

I got started teaching during my service in the United States Air Force. It began when several of my fellow service members, knowing that I was a writer, asked for help with their collegiate papers, or preparation for their promotion exams. On multiple occasions, my lunch breaks were spent red-inking papers, reports, and speeches for my comrades in arms.

I taught several classes while in the service, including a class on writing military paperwork properly and expediently. After leaving the service, I continued teaching creative writing and began critiquing and editing blogs for several members of a writing group.

I have predominantly worked with college age and high school students. I am, however, interested and capable of working with students of all ages.

The most recent event I am fond of would be attending my cousin's wedding. It was held in a chapel build of glass and wood, with stone floors that their vows echoed across with beauty and a permanence in the echoes that radiated outward, showing their love for one another. The reception was held in a pear orchard, with tables beneath the boughs of the trees. It was held at dusk, with candles in jars hanging from the branches and joining the fireflies in lighting the night's celebrations. It was truly beautiful to see such love represented between two people, and to remember the day of my own wedding vows and renew them in sacred silence with the squeeze of my husband's hand.
