Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find out what level the student is by working current problems from the text and some of my own questions. I can then find the "holes" in the student's knowledge and start to fill in any areas of difficulty.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master Degree in Curriculum and an endorsement in secondary mathematics.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My starting point is $50. I charge $75 for test prep.
How did you get started teaching?
I wanted to join the Peace Corps after college and they needed teachers.
What types of students have you worked with?
All grades K-12. I have experience with students on an iep, students who hadn't been taught any math for several years, developmentally challenged students... I believe every student is a puzzle to be solved.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
There are few to choose from in this time of covid but I always look forward to phone calls from my nieces.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You may need to try several tutors before you click with one. Don't expect any more out of tutoring than you are willing to put into it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Exactly what don't I understand in class. Do I have more difficulties at school than home? Do I ask questions in school? Do I attempt my work at home?
